The Executive Chairman of Plateau United, Alhassan Yakmut, has revealed that his management has the executive mandate of Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang to win the 2026/2027 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title, Completesports.com reports.
The Tin City club’s boss reiterated that they are determined to return to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League stage in the 2027/2028 season.
Yakmut, a former Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), spoke after the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the league board in Ibadan.

He said the club had embarked on the process of ensuring that they delivered on the mandate.
Plateau United Target NPFL 2026/2027 Title
“Well, the AGM was a very good forum for us to understand the vision of the league in terms of the 2026/2027 season, and then the review of the 2025/2026 season also gave us a clue as to what to emphasise in our preparation towards Plateau United winning the league and then going to represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League,” Yakmut began.
“We have the mandate of His Excellency, the Governor of Plateau State, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, to take Plateau United to the continental stage.
“Our Technical Adviser, Chief Gbenga Ogunbote, has already signed his contract extension with us, and he is already preparing towards selecting the best legs that will redeem us from the embarrassment of not getting the continental ticket.”
Ogunbote Set for Continental Challenge
The last time Plateau United represented Nigeria in a CAF inter-club competition was in the 2022/2023 season, when they were knocked out of the CAF Champions League in the second preliminary round by Esperance de Tunis.
They subsequently dropped into the CAF Confederation Cup but were eliminated by Libyan club Al-Akhdar SC.
