Authorities in Gaza have said that civil defence teams recovered the remains of 112 more people from rubble in the Sabra neighbourhood of Gaza City after 136 hours of digging, much of it by hand.
The recovered remains included 40 children, 38 women and seven people with physical disabilities, AFP reported.
The International Committee of the Red Cross said it supported the nearly two-week operation. Its Gaza spokesperson, Amani Al-Naouq, said thousands of families had spent more than two and a half years waiting to recover the remains of loved ones and described the search for missing people as a critical humanitarian issue, according to AFP.
Colonel Mohammed Abu Dan, who is overseeing the site for Gaza’s civil defence agency, said crews believe another 157 bodies remain buried beneath the rubble and that search efforts are continuing despite the difficult conditions.
