Liverpool have named their asking price for Cody Gakpo this summer after opening the door to his transfer in anticipation of a move for Bradley Barcola.

Barcola has emerged as Liverpool’s top target for the remainder of the transfer window, even with Paris Saint-Germain holding out for €170 million for the 23-year-old.

While Liverpool will not go that high, they are expected to submit a formal offer of around €100m for Barcola in the coming days and the Frenchman’s arrival could allow Gakpo to be sold.

Liverpool had previously insisted that they were not interested in cashing in on Gakpo but the potential addition of Barcola, as well as the signing of Victor Munoz and the development of Rio Ngumoha may have changed the stance over the Dutch international.

AnfieldWatch report that Liverpool are now open to selling Gakpo if they receive a fee of €85 million, with a belief that the 27-year-old’s pedigree and track record should value him slightly higher than the €80m Barcelona paid Newcastle for Anthony Gordon.

Liverpool could now field significant interest in Gakpo from a number of sides including Tottenham, who are believed to have made the winger a leading contender to join the club this summer.

Gakpo could be sold this summer as Liverpool continue to explore Salah replacement

Gakpo was a key player under previous manager Arne Slot but it remains to be seen how new boss Andoni Iraola values him, given the player’s struggles with consistency during his time at Anfield.

Despite being a regular source of goals, Gakpo has proven to be a frustrating figure on the wing and, while he is still highly rated by Liverpool, Iraola may prefer to go in a different direction with his attack.

Liverpool also still have to address their replacement for Mohamed Salah on the right hand side, with Barcola, Gakpo, Ngumoha and Munoz all preferring to come in from the left flank, as well as Federico Chiesa, who is still at the club despite a belief that he would be sold this summer.

Much will depend on Liverpool’s pursuit of Barcola and how much PSG demand, as well as the other moves the club makes, with at least one defender also being targeted and interest continuing to emerge in stars such as Curtis Jones.
