Brentford have agreed a £41million deal to sign Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangare as a replacement for Jordan Henderson.
The 24-year-old is preparing to travel to the UK to undergo a medical after a meeting with club officials in Paris.
A sell-on is due to be included also while his former club Rapid Vienna are also due a percentage.
However, the deal is not a club record as it falls just short of the £42million Brentford paid to Bournemouth for Dango Ouattara last summer.
Talks between Henderson and Chelsea are advancing with the 36-year-old former Liverpool midfielder in line to add experience into Xabi Alonso’s changing room. Chelsea have radically adjusted their summer strategy by now aiming to add older players to their squad rather than purely focusing on youthful potential.
Danny Welbeck is also set to join after agreeing a two-year deal.

Brentford have confirmed that Jordan Henderson’s contract has been terminated, a year after he joined the club.
Since leaving Liverpool in 2023, the 36-year-old has played for Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, Ajax, and the Bees.
Daily Mail Sport revealed on Tuesday evening how Brentford had stepped up their interest to sign the Mali international as it became apparent they would be agreeing to mutually terminate Henderson’s contract and pave the way for him to join Chelsea.
Brentford had a long-held interest in Sangare but had to fend off competition from two other English clubs including Crystal Palace.
