WAFCON 2026: Morocco Thrash Kenya 4-0 In Group Opener

Hosts Morocco got their Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Group A campaign off to a perfect start after thrashing Kenya 4-0 in Rabat on Sunday.

Goals from Sakina Ouzraoui, Maryame Atiq, and a brace from Ibtissam Jraidi secured the dominant win for the Atlas Lionesses.

Morocco opened the scoring in the 19th minute through Ouzraoui, who finished off an assist from Yasmin Mrabet, before Atiq made it 2-0 in the 29th minute, heading in a corner taken by Kawtar Azraf.

In the 32nd minute Jraidi made it 3-0 after finishing off a pass from Hanane Ait El Haj.

After the break, the Atlas Lionesses maintained their attacking rhythm and went 4-0 on 47 minutes as Jraidi completed her brace.

In the group’s other match also played on Sunday, Algeria defeated Senegal 2-0.

Up next for Morocco is a clash with Algeria on July 30 while Senegal and Kenya will do battle on the same day.

Morocco will hope to be third time lucky as WAFCON hosts, after losing in the final of the 2022 and 2024 editions.

In the 2022 final, Morocco lost 2-1 to South Africa before losing 3-2 to Nigeria’s Super Falcons despite taking a 2-0 lead.
