Team Nigeria’s Ruth Asuquo fought back brilliantly to win silver medal in the women’s 48kg weightlifting event at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games on Sunday.
After finishing third in the snatch with a personal best of 75kg, Asuquo missed her first two clean and jerk attempts at 93kg.
With everything on the line, she eventually nailed the lift on her final attempt to secure the silver medal.
Asuquo finished with a total of 168kg, with India’s Mirabai Chanu claiming the gold while Malaysia’s Irene Henry claimed bronze.

Team Nigeria now has a total of seven medals comprising of three gold and four silver and are third in the medals table.
Australia are top with 12 gold, five silver and seven bronze and England are second with three gold, seven silver and five bronze.
