Celtic striker Daizen Maeda has confirmed that he wants the club to lower their asking price in order to help him secure a move away before the end of the 2026 summer transfer window.

The Japan forward was keen to leave Celtic Park last summer, but a proposed move to Wolfsburg fell through after the sale of Adam Idah to Swansea City and he was forced to remain with the Glasgow giants for the entirety of the 2025-26 campaign.

Maeda, who helped Celtic win the Scottish Premiership title with 14 league goals in 36 games last season, is once again eager to depart the club and newly-promoted Premier League outfit Ipswich Town are pushing to bring him to Portman Road.

Sky Sports have confirmed that Ipswich have held talks with Celtic over a potential summer deal for the 28-year-old, and negotiations over a transfer are expected to intensify over the coming days.

Maeda, who scored one goal in three games at the World Cup, has just one year remaining on his current contract at Celtic Park and he has emerged as a top target for Ipswich amid their bid to stay in the Premier League next season. While it remains to be seen how much a deal will cost, the Japan forward’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €11.5 million.

Daizen Maeda makes Celtic exit admission

When asked by Japanese TV programme PUSH Sports whether he believes that his performances at the World Cup will increase his market value, Maeda admitted: “I wish it would go down even more. If it goes down, it will be easier for me to transfer teams. So I don’t want it to go up.”

He added (via The Daily Record): “Playing in the Premier League has been my dream for a long time, so I think I have to work even harder to get there.

“I believe that the next World Cup is at the end of the road if I cherish each and every day of playing soccer, so first and foremost, I want to cherish each and every day in front of me.”
