George Russell’s Belgian Grand Prix came to a dramatic early end after the Mercedes star collided with former team-mate Lewis Hamilton on the first lap of the race.
Russell was sent into the gravel after making contact with Ferrari star Hamilton at the iconic Spa race track, with the championship hopeful unable to rescue his race.
The safety car was immediately deployed as the Silver Arrows machinery was rescued from the side of the track, in a disappointing outing for Russell – who is looking to claw back his deficit to team-mate Kimi Antonelli in the driver standings.
Russell is 25 points behind Italian youngster Antonelli in the championship, and will walk away from Belgium empty-handed.ย ย
