According to a report by Daily Post, on Saturday, July 18, 2026, one of the survivors of the recent attack on Kum village in the Rim District of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State has shared a painful account of how armed assailants killed members of his family during the incident.
The survivor, Mr. James Yohanna, was among only three people who reportedly escaped alive from the attack, which claimed the lives of nine members of a single family.ѕєє тнє ν!∂єσ нєяє
Speaking with journalists on Friday, Yohanna described the incident as one of the most traumatic experiences of his life, saying the attackers stormed his home and brutally killed his loved ones.
According to Yohanna, the victims included his wife, his son, his four-year-old daughter, and his two-month-old granddaughter.
He explained that he narrowly escaped being killed during the invasion, adding that he believes the attackers intentionally targeted his household.
He claimed the gunmen spoke Fulfulde, the language commonly associated with the Fulani ethnic group, and said they appeared to know exactly who they were looking for before carrying out the killings.
Yohanna also alleged that the attack on his family may have been linked to his relationship with the Regional Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) for Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo.
While recounting the terrifying events of that night, Yohanna said the attackers first arrived at his residence and demanded to know the whereabouts of the “father” of the family before they began shooting.
He explained that the attackers attempted to force their way into the house, prompting one of the occupants to flee outside in an effort to escape.
According to him, the fleeing victim was shot in both the arm and the leg but still managed to hide before those chasing him could reach his location.
Yohanna said there was a brief period of silence before the attackers returned once again.
He recalled hearing dogs barking loudly, followed by the sound of heavy footsteps outside.
Moments later, gunshots rang out near his son’s room before he heard the attackers kick the door open.
He said his son pleaded with the gunmen not to hurt the family as they entered the house.
He said, “But a male voice with a Fulani accent said in Hausa, ‘today you will learn a hard lesson’ after demanding the ‘father of the house.’ When my son failed to answer, they shot him, shot his wife, and shot his two-month-old baby.
