At least 20 pupils and one adult have been killed after a bus carrying pupils on a school trip crashed in Kapchorwa, eastern Uganda, local officials have said

At least 20 children and a teacher have been killed after a school bus ploughed into a rock on a treacherous road in Uganda.

Another 60 people are believed to have sustained injuries in the collision, which occurred as the group were returning from a school trip.

The driver reportedly lost control of the bus after appearing to have experienced a mechanical failure at around 8pm local time on Thursday.

The vehicle then veered off Chekwatit Village road in eastern Uganda before overturning.
