Arsenal have been told that Atletico Madrid do not want to sell Julian Alvarez this summer and even £170million would not get a deal done
Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez. football.london understands that while Mikel Arteta remains a major admirer of the Argentina international, any potential deal was always going to be challenging.
That has only been made tougher by the announcement of the Atleti CEO, Miguel Angel Gil. Gil has made it clear that the club will not be entertaining any offers for their star man this summer.
This comes after having already rejected a €150million (£129million) offer from Real Madrid earlier in the summer. But this latest announcement claims that even higher offers will be dismissed.

“My opinion is clear, the club’s will is clear, we have made it clear to the player, the agent, the president of Barça…” Gil explained in a video posted to Atletico’s social media feeds. “I have no doubt that Atlético is the place in the world for Julián and that Julián is the perfect striker for Atlético de Madrid.
“We want to continue counting on him. I recently heard the president say that the offer he made to Atlético de Madrid wasn’t unlimited, and the only possible response is that our response is unlimited.
“We don’t want to transfer him; we won’t accept the €100million offer, nor will we accept one for €150million or €200 million (£170million).”
That could therefore be all she wrote when it comes to Arsenal’s hopes, despite their lack of being named and specifically Barcelona, the supposed dream destination of Alvarez, in the statement. Arsenal have other targets.
football.london understands that if they do proceed with a centre-forward-type players, Eli Junior Kroupi is of interest. However, the priority target for now remains for the left flank in the form of Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers.
