Arsenal eye next deal after Christos Tzolis transfer with talks ‘advanced’

Arsenal are looking to sign their top transfer target after agreeing a deal to sign Christos Tzolis

Arsenal are reportedly in advanced talks with Morgan Rogers’ representatives as Mikel Arteta’s side push to sign their ‘top target’ this summer.

The Gunners have just reached a ยฃ34million agreement with Club Brugge to sign winger Christos Tzolis, with Arsenal looking to strengthen in wide areas after defeat to PSG in the Champions League final.

football.london understands Arsenal wish to strengthen their forward line, with a specific focus on the left-hand side of the attack, and several targets under consideration.

Arteta’s side will begin the defence of their Premier League crown next month, but the head coach has made it clear he wants his squad strengthened before then.

The Arsenal boss is a huge admirer of Rogers, and has reportedly informed sporting director Andrea Berta to make the England international his top transfer target this summers.

With the arrival of Tzolis set to be confirmed, Fabrizio Romano states that the Gunners will now progress on a move for Rogers, with talks said to be at an “advanced stage” with the player’s representatives.

Aston Villa, however, want to keep the midfield playmaker at the club, having played a key role in the Europa League success and qualification for the Champions League.

Rogers has kept his cards close to his chest regarding his future, with some reports claiming Villa are holding out for a British-transfer record fee of ยฃ130million.

“I’m not sure I’m worth all of that!” he said when asked about the reported valuation. “Of course it’s nice to hear that from people.

“But I don’t let outside noise dictate me. I’m just going to keep focused, keep being me, keep being the person that got me here and keep trying to improve. I don’t really listen to stuff like that.”

Arsenal have just sold the first member of their title-winning squad, with Leandro Trossard joining Turkish side Besiktas for a fee of ยฃ17million after add-ons.

The 31-year-old scored some important goals during his time at the Emirates Stadium, scoring the winner against West Ham United, which proved hugely significant in the Premier League title race.

A club statement confirmed Trossard’s departure from the club, which read: “We have reached an agreement with Besiktas for the permanent transfer of Leandro Trossard.

“We will provide a further update once the transfer has been completed.”
