A six-year-old Palestinian boy was injured on Wednesday after being hit by a car driven by an Israeli settler in the southern West Bank city of Hebron, according to his father.
Mukhlis Ammar Al Slaimeh, the father of six-year-old Mukhlis Al Slaimeh, said the settler deliberately drove into his son while he was playing with other children near the Israeli military Checkpoint 160 before fleeing the scene.
He said the boy suffered bruising to his face and was taken to hospital, where he is undergoing medical examinations to assess his condition.
Checkpoint 160 is located at the entrance to the Al Slaimeh neighbourhood in Hebronβs Old City and separates several residential areas from the rest of the city.
Residents of those neighbourhoods are required to pass through the checkpoint and undergo security checks and prior registration, causing daily obstacles to their movement.
Students and employees are also forced to take longer routes to reach their schools and workplaces.
The checkpoint has seen repeated incidents involving Palestinians, frequent closures and restricted opening hours for Palestinian movement, further isolating the neighbourhoods behind it from the rest of Hebron.
The occupied West Bank has seen a sustained escalation since October 2023, with Israeli military raids and arrests taking place alongside attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians and their property.
