Iran has no plans to resume negotiations with the United States at this time and remains focused on defending the country, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on Wednesday.
Speaking to Iranian media on the sidelines of a memorial service in Tehran, Baghaei said, “Iran currently has no plans to negotiate, and its focus is on defending the country.”
He added that Iran would not adhere to any agreement if the United States failed to uphold its own commitments.
“This is a firm principle, and Iran will continue to adhere to it,” Baghaei said. He also accused the United States of violating the ceasefire agreement from the time it entered into force, alleging that Washington had not complied with its commitments.
Separately, Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency reported that the United States had carried out a strike targeting Hengam Island, near the Strait of Hormuz. The report did not provide details on the extent of the damage or whether there were any casualties.
The United States had not publicly commented on the reported strike at the time of reporting.
