Amid the controversy of WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert skipping out on an interview, fans are mocking her for a horrific attempt at a golf shot.
Engelbert was taking part in the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe last week where she was scheduled to make a live appearance on ‘The Dan Patrick Show.’
But Engelbert, who has been dodging media opportunities while a controversy with Caitlin Clark consumes attention around the WNBA, ended up backing out of the interview – leading to on-air scorn from Patrick.
Patrick shared his frustration over Engelbert skipping out on the interview while she was standing ’50 yards away, she’s hitting practice shots out of the bunker.’
The camera then cut to Engelbert standing in the practice sand to dial in that part of her game.
As Patrick continued his complaint, Engelbert took a practice shot out of the bunker that was viciously shanked and flew wide right and off target.

Cameras caught Engelbert’s shot flying wildly out of the bunker and to the right
Video of the shank went viral as fans mocked Engelbert for the rather poor shot.
‘Her swing is atrocious,’ wrote one user on X.
Another said, ‘If I was playing in something like that and shanked one out of the practice bunker I would immediately withdraw.’
‘Clearly she needs the practice,’ another user said tauntingly.
One person remarked, ‘This is straight out of a sitcom.’
‘Sucks at golf and her job,’ read a different comment
Another user praised the ‘A+ producing work’ of Patrick’s team to time the shank.
The commissioner was scheduled to appear on the Dan Patrick Show but cancelled
Patrick had promoted the interview with the Commissioner, which had been scheduled for last Thursday, throughout the week. However, the Commissioner backed out, cancelling her appearance at the behest of the WNBA’s PR team, claimed Patrick.
Patrick said he and his producers ‘waited almost two hours’ for Engelbert, contacting the WNBA multiple times before getting a ‘feeble’ response.
‘And then we got word that the commissioner said that the WNBA staff, the PR staff, said that she is not allowed to do this,’ Patrick said. ‘They would prefer that she did not do [the interview]. Did you check with PR before you said yes to us?’
He continued to insist that if the WNBA wanted to be treated as a top league in the United States then its commissioner should be willing to face the music.
He admitted he was preparing to ask some tough questions, but nothing unfair that Engelbert shouldn’t have to answer to.
‘I thought this was going to be a good thing for the WNBA because people still want answers here,’ Patrick said. ‘There’s so many people who have an opinion, agendas here, and this was a chance to sit down.
‘And yes, would the questions be tough? Yes, yes. And I’m sure that had something to do with [Engelbert canceling]… So, it’s just disappointing.’
Engelbert’s cancelled interview comes after Patrick, like the majority of news outlets and networks in the US, has extensively covered the fallout from the punch on Clark.
