San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Trent Taylor has called it quits on his football career, bringing the curtain down two months before the 2026 season begins.
His team revealed he announced the news on his personal social media and that he celebrated the end of the chapter with a meal alongside teammate and friend George Kittle, the 49ers’ star tight end.
Taylor’s wife, Sarah, also shared a photo on Instagram with Kittle and his wife Claire from the celebration.
‘Ended the journey with the same ones we started it with,’ she wrote.
The 32-year-old Taylor was drafted by the Niners in 2017 – the same year the team also chose Kittle – in the fifth round out of Louisiana Tech and also played for the Cincinnati Bengals and Chicago Bears.
He spent four years in San Francisco in his first spell with the team before returning in 2024 up until the end of his seven-year career.

Across the course of his career, Taylor played in 80 regular-season games and recorded 88 receptions for 845 yards and three touchdowns.
The 49ers have bolstered their options at wide receiver for the new season, too, by bringing in Mike Evans, the former longtime Tampa Bay Buccaneers star.
They got him in on a three-year deal worth up to $60.4million, with Kittle thrilled at the arrival of the 32-year-old.
‘Just so savvy,’ Kittle said of the move in a recent appearance on Travis and Jason Kelce’s New Heights episode. ‘Catches everything, runs great routes, gives great effort. I’m all-in on Mike Evans.’
Kittle appears to be winning a battle to get to full health for the start of the 2026 campaign.
His season last year met a brutal end when he tore his Achilles in the playoffs during the wild-card win over the then Super Bowl champions, Philadelphia Eagles.
Players can be out for around a year in order to fully recover from the surgery but Kittle appears to be ahead of schedule.
The Niners start the season against the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, Australia on September 10.
