Jordan Henderson was injured in the aftermath of England’s 3-2 win over Mexico on Monday, but has left the door open to potentially playing a part at the rest of the World Cup
Jordan Henderson said: “We’ll cross that bridge if we come to it,” when asked about potentially booting up for England if they make it to the final of the World Cup. The 36-year-old sustained a broken wrist in the aftermath of England’s 3-2 win over Mexico on Monday.
Henderson was trying to vault over an advertising hoarding during the celebrations at the Estadio Azteca, when he slipped and landed with his arm planted. He has since undergone surgery on the injury, although his World Cup is largely thought to be over.
However, the Brentford midfielder left the door open to potentially playing under Thomas Tuchel once again this summer, in the build-up to England’s quarter-final clash with Norway in Miami. Giving an update on his injury while speaking with ITV, he said: “It’s alright, thanks.
“Not my finest hour I know. Main job was to go there and win, progress, that’s the main thing.
“A tough couple of days. Soon as I came back to camp to see the lads, we’ve got a great medical team, the DRs and surgeons in Kansas were amazing. Grateful for that, delighted to be here today.”
Asked about the challenge that lies ahead and what England must do against Norway, he added: “Same thing we showed in the last game, the resilience and character, obstacles that we overcome. We have to do the same again, tough test for us.
“If we’re the best version of ourselves, I’m confident we’ll get through.”

Asked about the tough task of containing Erling Haaland, he continued: “It is a challenge, he’s one of the best in the world but they’ve got top top players. For us, we have to concentrate, do our job and get through to the semi.”
Meanwhile, when probed on whether he would be able to compete for England should they beat Norway on Saturday evening and either Argentina or Switzerland in the semi-finals, he said with a smile: “We’ll cross that bridge if we come to it.”
It comes as Tuchel has been forced into a number of changes to his starting XI to play against Norway in Miami. Ezri Konsa has been shifted over to right-back Jarell Quansah’s absence – the Bayer Leverkusen unable to play for England until the final as a result of a two match ban for a straight red card picked up against Mexico.
John Stones, therefore, slots in as Marc Guehi’s centre-half pairing. Despite battling a sickness bug which has hampered his preparations for the contest, Declan Rice has been given the nod to start in the centre of the park alongside Elliot Anderson, while Jude Bellingham will look to make a mark as a No. 10.
Noni Madueke also bursts into the team in Bukayo Saka’s place on the right wing, his Arsenal team-mate being managed in terms of minutes as England head into the home stretch of the 2026 World Cup.
