A girl was allegedly snatched from outside her home before being gang raped. Police have arrested one boy on suspicion of attacking the girl while a second suspect remains at large.
The victim was reportedly standing outside her house before being approached by two boys. The alleged attackers, who live in the same neighbourhood as the girl, started talking to her before luring her behind a nearby building. They are then reported to have taken turns raping the victim. The alleged attack was also filmed and sent to other people.
As reported by The Star, the attack took place in the city of Bhopal, located in the central Indian state of Mdhya Pradesh, earlier this week. The victim’s parents reported it to police on Wednesday night (July 8) before an urgent investigation was launched.
It’s alleged the attackers approached the girl before taking her behind a secluded building in the neighbourhood. They then reportedly raped her before fleeing the scene.
According to local media, the attackers filmed the gang rape on their phones before sending the footage to other people. It has been confirmed that one of the suspects has been arrested following a police investigation.
However, the second suspect is yet to be tracked down. Investigating officers are continuing to appeal to the public for information on the reported attack in a bid to arrest him.
Police officials confirmed both accused have been booked under Sections 5(G)and 6 of the POCSO Act, Sections 70 (2) and 351 (3) of the BNS, and Section 67-A of the IT Act.
The reported gang rape took place in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh. The city is located around 460 miles south of New Delhi and has a population of around 2.7 million people.
