A tourist defied the odds after spending five hours lodged in a crevice halfway down a a cliff in China.
Ren Mou pressed into the crevice while she shouted for help after falling 180ft down the Jiaozi Cliff in Shanxi Province.
She had spent the night alone, watching the sunrise at the site when she fell over the 330ft-high ledge.
It is understood that she was walking near the edge when wet conditions and poor visibility caused her to slip. She tumbled down but became stuck in a small rock crevice.
A man at the cliff’s base heard her calls for help and alerted the authorities in the early hours of Thursday, July 2.
Drones were deployed drones, including infrared imaging, to pinpoint the her exact location.
Rescue teams secured ropes to surrounding trees before abseiling to reach her as the cliff offered no suitable anchor points.
Ren survived five hours in the rock crevice by the time she was brought to safety.
She was disorientated, physically exhausted and had sustained multiple non-life-threatening injuries from the incident. Ren remains in hospital where she is receiving treatment.
The Captain of the Shanxi Blue Sky Rescue Team said it was the first time in 16 years of service he had encountered such a situation.
Visitors have been urged to avoid lingering near cliff edges at night and slippery terrain. They have also been told to heed safety warnings.
This comes as a tourist fell 130ft off a cliff after taking a selfie at the Huaying Mountain, in Guang’an, China.
