FIFA has launched an investigation into allegations of racism against popular YouTuber IShowSpeed during a World Cup fixture last week.
IShowSpeed, who boasts 57 million subscribers on YouTube and 53 million followers on TikTok, has livestreamed games throughout the tournament across the United States, Canada and Mexico this summer.
The YouTuber attended the Round of 32 thriller between Argentina and Cape Verde on July 3, which saw the reigning champions emerge victorious with a 3-2 win.
IShowSpeed, whose real name is Darren Jason Watkins Jr, was seen on his stream watching the game at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami wearing a Cape Verde jersey, following the team’s fairytale run at the World Cup.
During the footage, the 21-year-old could be heard getting into an altercation with an Argentina fan.
He could be heard asking a fan in an Argentina jersey what was being said toward him. The fan speaking in Spanish appeared to be telling IShowSpeed, who is Black, to ‘go cry to the zoo.’

‘FIFA strongly condemns racism, hate and discrimination in all forms,’ the soccer body said in a statement.
‘These actions have no place in football, at the FIFA World Cup, or anywhere in society. … The FIFA World Cup is a celebration of unity, diversity and respect. It brings together people, cultures and communities from around the world, and anyone who acts in a manner that undermines these values is not welcome in our game.’
He appeared to face further abuse during Argentina’s comeback win over Egypt in the Round of 16 on Tuesday.
During his stream, Argentina fans were caught shouting at the streamer with one appearing to make monkey gestures.
It came at the end of the game after IShowSpeed had taunted Lionel Messi as the Argentine legend prepared to take a penalty against Egypt.
A clip that went viral on social media showed IShowSpeed wearing an Egypt shirt behind the goal where Messi was taking his penalty.
He was seen screaming for Messi to look at him, while waving his arms around and even barking. The Inter Miami star went on to miss the penalty.
IShowSpeed is one of the sport’s biggest content creators with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Portugal legend Cristiano Ronaldo and former Barcelona star Zlatan Ibrahimovic appearing on his channel.
The alleged abuse against IShowSpeed comes after a Paraguayan senator made a series of racist remarks about France star Kylian Mbappe.

Senator Celeste Amarilla had originally launched a furious tirade against the forward centred around his behaviour during France’s 1-0 victory over Paraguay on Saturday.
She described Mbappe as a ‘colonised Cameroonian, desperately trying to pass himself off as French’ and as a ‘brute who had not learned to write’.
The Real Madrid star, however, hit back with a post of his own on X. He described Amarilla as a ‘despicable woman’ who was ‘unworthy of her position’ in office.
‘Through your recklessness and your brazen racism, the entire world has already forgotten the journey and the historic effort that your players accomplished,’ Mbappe added.
Mbappe received the backing of both the French Football Federation (FFF) and the country’s president, Emmanuel Macron.
The FFF vowed to take judicial action against the politician, describing her remarks as ‘utterly abhorrent and unacceptable’.
Meanwhile Macron posted on social media: ‘Another goal for Kylian Mbappe. Against racism this time. All my support. When words defile, our values respond: dignity, respect, fraternity’.
However, Amarilla, who is a member of Paraguay’s Liberal Radical Party, fired back at the Frenchman in another furious rant on Tuesday evening.

While admitting she ‘regretted’ her earlier post because it ‘repeated patterns I (she) detest’, the official accused the striker of ‘political violence against a woman’.
Responding to allegations of racism, Amarilla began: ‘I have never said anything against France; on the contrary, I am with you. I studied at a French school from the age of 2 until I was 17, and I finished my schooling here.’
She added: ‘It has nothing to do with France the problem is with you.
‘Your arrogance and contempt have annoyed me greatly since before the match when you said: “if we have to get our hands dirty in the s**t, let’s go put them there”.
‘We are not stupid; we perfectly understand that the s**t meant the Paraguayan team, and the Paraguayan team is all of us.
‘During the match, your arrogant behaviour was obvious – your contempt for every player, as if they were disgusting. And, finally, you disregarded our goalkeeper. That is something you don’t do. Respect between rivals after a match is almost sacred – in war as in peace, in defeat as in victory – and you did not shake his hand; instead, you screamed your victory in his face.
‘You showed your contempt, your arrogance, and your lack of manners in a single second. For me, it hurt, and it hurt my entire country deeply.’
