FootballTransfers runs through the latest Manchester United transfer news on Monday 6 July, including new rumours surrounding Aurelien Tchouameni, Orlando Gill and Alex Scott.
Man Utd want a Galactico
The Red Devils are considering an ambitious move for Real Madrid superstar Aurelien Tchouameni.
Current boss Michael Carrick has identified central midfield as the main area within his squad that needs strengthening and the club already has a deal in place to sign Ederson from Atalanta.
With Casemiro now out of contract, though, and Manuel Ugarte out with a serious injury, Man Utd need more reinforcements in midfield, not simply to make up the numbers but to improve the team overall, hence the reports linking the club with a player of Tchouameni’s level.
Real Madrid do want to sell a midfielder this summer but would rather keep the France international and sell his compatriot, Eduardo Camavinga, who did not make the 2026 World Cup squad.
AS reports that Los Blancos could be willing to part with Tchouameni but only if an offer of €100 million or more comes in.
With two years remaining on his contract, the deal is more likely than if he had four or five years remaining, as he has never outright stated a desire to leave the Madrid capital.
World Cup hero wanted
The goalkeeper position has become a problematic one for United ever since the departure of David de Gea and although Senne Lammens has come in and performed well, the club still wants another stopper for the squad.
Their scouts have clearly been watching the World Cup and the exploits of Paraguayan goalkeeper Orlando Gill, who put in some heroic performances for his nation before their eventual elimination by France.
He was the protagonist in the massive penalty shootout win against Germany and also performed superbly against Les Bleus, albeit on the losing side.
Gill currently plays for San Lorenzo, and Fichajes say the club are preparing themselves for major interest in the player.
Four-way battle for Scott
Man Utd face a huge battle to sign Alex Scott from Bournemouth as the talented midfielder is also wanted by Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City, according to TalkSPORT.
Scott is being viewed as an alternative to Tchouameni but if funds were in place, Carrick ideally would want both players to aid his midfield rebuild.
However, Bournemouth previously reiterated they have no intention of selling Alex Scott this summer, according to eSPORTY reporter Ben Jacobs.
Thuram boost
United have received a boost in their attempts to sign Kephren Thuram from Juventus as the Italian giants are close to securing a deal for his replacement.
Juve need to sell to buy this summer and Thuram has been identified as a player who could raise the club significant funds, with a price tag of around €50m on his head.
The Bianconeri have offered a deal to free agent Franck Kessie, who is available after leaving Al-Ahli. Should he make the return to Italy, Juve would be more willing to sell Thuram.
Andrey Santos interest
Chelsea are widely known to be in the market for a new midfielder also and should they bring someone in, Andrey Santos will fall further down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.
Man Utd are looking to take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding the Brazilian’s future by making a €50m for his services.
The club’s interest in the 22-year-old has been confirmed by David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano, with a deal potentially set to be on the cards as Chelsea are open to a sale following their failure to qualify for the Champions League, leading to a requirement to raise funds for their own purchases.
If Chelsea do sign a midfielder, Santos is even more likely to leave now that Real Madrid have denied any interest in signing Enzo Fernandez.
Santos only started 13 Premier League matches for Chelsea last season but United see him as a potential star of the future.
Difficult to sign Maxi Araujo
The agent of reported Man Utd target Maxi Araujo has explained how difficult it will be for clubs to sign his client this summer, as Sporting CP don’t need to sell.
Martin Rodriguez told El Espectador Deportes:
“When a player stands out at Sporting, it’s not easy to get him out of there. This is the case of Maxi. Sporting has a lot of money and doesn’t sell cheaply. There are only 20 or 30 teams in the world that can reach Maxi: the Premier League teams and two or three main teams from the other major leagues.
“It is difficult for Maxi to end up in a club that is not one of those, given the club he is in and what he is looking for and what we are aiming for.”
