Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has said his country is not at peace with the United States, describing Washington as an unreliable party.
Speaking during a meeting in Tehran on Sunday with Mohammad Darwish, chairman of the Hamas Shoura Council, Ghalibaf also said Iran would never recognise Israel.
He said Iran would continue to support Muslims and the resistance axis, providing missiles when needed and political backing whenever required.
On negotiations, Ghalibaf said Iran had set clear red lines and maintained them throughout the talks, adding that the axis of resistance and Lebanon were among those red lines. He also pledged to closely follow the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire process.
Ghalibaf said Iran had not abandoned its main demand in the memorandum of understanding signed with the United States through Qatari and Pakistani mediation, which calls for an end to the war against its regional allies and the Axis of Resistance. He claimed the United States had been “forced to recognise them in the memorandum of understanding”.
He added that full military readiness was essential for conducting negotiations from a position of strength, arguing that the United States and Israel would resort to war if they sensed any weakness in Iran’s resistance.
Ghalibaf also stressed that diplomacy must be capable of protecting military gains and making them lasting.
