The mother and father have been charged by police following the discovery of twin girls found deceased in their bed in Beuvrages, near Valenciennes, France. They are charged with “deprivation of care by an ascendant resulting in the death of a minor under 15 years of age”
A commune has been left devastated after one child was airlifted to hospital and two twin girls, aged just 15 months, were found dead at the same property.
The children’s parents have been charged with “deprivation of care by an ascendant resulting in the death of a minor under 15 years of age”. It comes after the discovery of the twins’ bodies in their bed in Beuvrages, near Valenciennes (Nord), France, at approximately 1pm on Monday (29 June).
The parents, 32 and 35, were formally charged on Wednesday, July 1 according to RTL.
A post-mortem examination on Tuesday confirmed the sisters died from dehydration and were underweight at the time of death. Their four other siblings, aged three, four, five and six, who also lived at the address, were found to be suffering from dehydration, with one in a critical condition in hospital after being airlifted from the scene, RTL reports.
The parents, who reside in social housing managed by Société immobilière du Grand Hainaut (SIGH), are said to have contacted emergency services after allegedly discovering the twins unresponsive.
Valenciennes prosecutor’s office confirmed the parents have been formally charged and are being held in custody. The surviving siblings of the deceased twins have all been placed into the care of Child Welfare Services, reports Birmingham Live.
LeParisien reports that the prosecutor’s office stated the family “was not under the supervision of a juvenile court judge” and no report had been filed.
The mayor of Beuvrages revealed that the family had only relocated to the area approximately two months prior to the twins’ tragic deaths.
