Germany suffered the shock of the World Cup so far as Julian Nagelsmann’s side crashed to an embarrassing round of 32 exit at the hands of Paraguay.
After seeing Jonathan Tah’s extra-time winner chalked off by VAR, Paraguay held on to take it to a penalty shootout and the unfancied side, who lost their opening match of this tournament 4-1 at the hands of USA, won it 4-3 on spot-kicks.
There will be huge regret for Germany, who saw Premier League regulars Kai Havertz and Nick Woltemade among those who missed their penalties, with Tah also blazing over.
Now the inquest will begin as Paraguay’s fairytale journey continues, with their last-16 tie slated to be against the winner of France vs Sweden.
More to follow.
