The England squad are continuing their quest for glory at the World Cup, with both Declan Rice and Marcus Rashford representing their country
Declan Rice has told Mikel Arteta exactly what Marcus Rashford could bring to Arsenal.
Rashford has ousted Anthony Gordon from England’s starting XI at the World Cup. The Manchester United star scored after coming off the bench in the opener against Croatia. He then provided a live spark after being introduced against Ghana to earn a starting spot for last night’s 2-0 win over Panama.
Rice was complimentary about how Rashford made an impact from the bench, especially in their tough test against Ghana.
Rice said: “It’s always difficult when you play against 11 behind the ball, as deep as they were.
“You’ve got to find solutions. In the last 10 minutes, we found more than we did all game and we were probably unlucky not to score.”

These words highlight exactly what benefit Rashford could bring to Arsenal when they come up against low-block teams. England found it difficult to penetrate Ghana’s defence, much like the Gunners did throughout the most recent campaign.
Arsenal fought against several defensive sides last season, resulting in seven draws. The likes of Nottingham Forest and Liverpool held the Gunners to 0-0 scorelines, with Sunderland and Wolves also taking points.
Arteta will be keen to secure an attacking player who can break the lines and turn these stalemates into wins as they bid to retain their Premier League crown. The rivalry may pose a threat but United have only ruled out selling to two sides; Liverpool and Manchester City.
This means that any other English club could take a crack at signing him, with Tottenham also keen on the 28-year-old. Reports suggest that the England international is focused on a move to Barcelona this summer following a successful loan. However, Gordon’s £80million move to the Nou Camp seems to have scuppered those plans.
Arsenal have just made Piero Hincapie’s move from Bayer Leverkusen permanent for £34.5m after activating the clause they negotiated in the defender’s loan deal.
This signing represents the money the Gunners are happy to pay and Rashford’s £40m release clause arguably shouldn’t be a problem. It remains to be seen whether the England international is keen on a move to north London but he would be an exceptional addition to Arsenal’s front line for next season’s title defence.
