The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, while claiming it destroyed several US military targets, said that “offending ships will be met with overwhelming force”, according to IRNA.
The IRGC statement, according to IRNA, reads:
IRGC navy and aerospace units carried out a coordinated missile and drone strike. They targeted and destroyed eight major US military installations, specifically the Ali Al-Salem base in Kuwait and the Fifth Fleet headquarters at Salman Port in Bahrain.
The operation was described as a firm retaliation for Washington’s recent military actions against Iran.
It warned that any offending ships will now face even harsher action, and that any future enemy aggression, regardless of the pretext or target significance, will be met with overwhelming force.
The statement also reminded the enemy that violating the ceasefire runs counter to Article 1 of the Islamabad MoU and would bring all ongoing processes to a standstill.
The enemy, which has a track record of breaking its commitments, launched attacks on five Iranian coastal positions early on Sunday morning, claiming it was responding to the IRGC Navy’s actions against a non-compliant ship.
Under the terms of the MoU, Iran holds responsibility for managing traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
