Iran and Lebanon speakers discuss Israel’s war

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has spoken by phone with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to discuss the latest developments in the region, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reports.

Ghalibaf told Berri that Tehran remains committed to efforts to end Israel’s war on Lebanon.

He said the first paragraph of Iran’s memorandum with the US deals with ending hostilities in Lebanon and protecting the country’s territorial integrity. He added that Iran is “seriously pursuing” the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory.

Berri welcomed Iran’s efforts in Switzerland, saying they served the interests of the Lebanese people. But he accused Washington of trying to bypass Lebanon’s sovereignty and described US dealings with Israel as a “conspiracy and sedition”.

Tasnim said both officials also called for the newly formed “deconfliction” unit to meet urgently to address Israel’s continuing invasion of Lebanon.
