Bruno Guimaraes faces an uncertain future at Newcastle United, and Arsenal are circling St. James’ Park like a vulture.
Andrea Berta can offer Bruno Guimaraes exactly what he wants ahead of a potential transfer to Arsenal. The Newcastle United star has recently been linked with a move to Emirates Stadium as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his options in the middle of the park.
According to The Athletic, the Gunners have made a verbal offer to sign Guimaraes, whose contract at St. James’ Park expires in June 2028. The report claims that the proposal, which was communicated to the Magpies via intermediaries, was worth less than £60million and was rejected.
It’s said that Newcastle will not entertain offers for the 28-year-old midfielder, who is currently preparing for Brazil’s clash against Japan in the last-32 of the World Cup. Guimaraes signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with the Magpies when he left Olympique Lyonnais in January 2022 for £40m.
Then, in October 2023, he penned a new deal, extending his stay in Tyneside until at least June 2028. Next month, Guimaraes will enter the final two years of his contract, casting an element of doubt over his future at Newcastle.

Interestingly, when the Brazilian joined the Magpies, he outlined his ambition to win the Champions League. Having finished in the bottom half of the Premier League last season, Newcastle failed to qualify for either of UEFA’s three club competitions, let alone Europe’s elite competition.
During an interview with Sky Sports, Guimaraes said: “If a club has a project and wants to aspire to the maximum, then it’s going to involve winning the Champions League. It’s the biggest club competition in the world.”
Unlike Eddie Howe, Arteta can not only guarantee the midfielder the chance to play in the Champions League, but to win it as well. Last season, Arsenal were just moments away from winning Europe’s elite competition, losing in the final to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties.
Speaking to reporters at the Puskas Stadium after the game, the Gunners boss immediately outlined his plan to take his side to ‘another level’. He said: “First of all, I will take a few days with my family, and then we will start the process to review what we have done.
“We will have to start making some very important decisions if we want to reach another level. We are going to have to show that ambition because we are more than capable of doing it, but it is going to demand us to be very ambitious, very fast and very smart.”
Guimaraes could be the final piece of the puzzle at the Emirates Stadium. The Newcastle captain would significantly bolster Arteta’s midfield and put Arsenal in great stead for another Champions League bid.
It’s a match made in heaven. Guimaraes wants to win the most prestigious trophy in club football, and he’ll have no better chance at lifting it than with Arteta, who’s just as desperate to do so…
