Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has stepped down from his position as General Manager of Kano Pillars and has been appointed Sports Ambassador of the club and Kano State in a significant restructuring of sports administration approved by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Sports247 reports that the appointment, announced on Thursday in a statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, forms part of a comprehensive overhaul of the Kano State Sports Commission and the Management Board of Kano Pillars Football Club aimed at repositioning sports development and restoring the state’s status as a powerhouse in Nigerian sports.

Heading the newly constituted Kano State Sports Commission is Alhaji Tukur Babangida, who will serve as Chairman, while Bashir Maizare has been appointed Secretary. The commission comprises representatives from local government councils, tertiary institutions, youth development organisations, and the wider sporting community, reflecting the government’s commitment to inclusive sports administration.
Governor Yusuf also approved a restructured Management Board for Kano Pillars FC, appointing Ahmad Musbahu as Chairman. The new board includes experienced football administrators and notable stakeholders such as veteran football administrator Abba Galadima, former Kano Pillars Fans Club Chairman Bashir Idris, and Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa.
Musa’s new ambassadorial role is expected to see him continue serving as one of the foremost faces of Kano football, using his experience, influence, and network to promote the club and contribute to sports development initiatives across the state.
The inclusion of respected football personalities underscores the government’s determination to rebuild Kano Pillars into a competitive force capable of challenging for domestic honours and making a strong impression on the continental stage. The four-time Nigeria Premier Football League champions remain one of the country’s most successful and widely supported football institutions.
Governor Yusuf charged the newly appointed officials to utilise their wealth of experience in discovering and nurturing young talents, improving sports administration, and creating opportunities for athletes across Kano State.
He expressed confidence that the new leadership teams would usher in an era of professionalism, accountability, and sustainable growth, reinforcing the state’s commitment to sports as a vital tool for youth empowerment and social development.
