Atalanta midfielder Ederson has confirmed that his proposed transfer to Manchester United is “almost done” after a €45 million fee was agreed between the two clubs.
The Brazil star, who was a late call-up to Carlo Ancelotti’s World Cup squad, is expected to sign a four-year contract at Old Trafford when he returns from international duty and he will become Michael Carrick’s first signing as the permanent Man Utd boss.
Ederson is set to arrive for an initial fee of €40.5m, with an additional €4.5m in potential add-ons, and he will replace compatriot Casemiro in Man Utd’s midfield next season, with the veteran Brazilian joining Inter Miami on a Bosman deal.
The Atalanta midfielder made 41 appearances across all competitions last term, registering five goal contributions, and he is set to partner Kobbie Mainoo in the middle of the park in 2026-27 after an impressive stint in Serie A.
Ederson was expected to have already been announced as a Man Utd player, but his late call-up to the Brazil squad for the World Cup has delayed the transfer, although he has confirmed that a deal will be finalised after the tournament.
Speaking to reporters after Brazil’s 3-0 win over Haiti, Ederson was asked about his move to Man Utd and he told Sky Italia: “I have to wait. Now I have to enjoy this moment, then we will see.
“Certainly, everything is almost done, but now I have to enjoy this moment. This is a wonderful experience and you have to enjoy the most.”
Who will Man Utd sign this summer?
Despite securing an agreement to sign Ederson this summer, Man Utd remain in the market for another central midfielder, amid the uncertain future of Manuel Ugarte, and they are understood to have earmarked West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes as a top candidate for the role, despite competition from Arsenal and Real Madrid.
Elliot Anderson was previously considered to be their top target, however Nottingham Forest want a fee in the region of €140m and the Red Devils have no intention of matching this valuation. As a result, the England star is expected to join Manchester City.
Meanwhile, Man Utd also want to sign a new left-back, with Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall on their radar, and they have initiated talks to purchase West Ham United’s Crysencio Summerville as their new left winger.
A new centre forward could be targeted too if Joshua Zirkzee is sold amid significant interest from multiple Serie A clubs.
