Arsenal are set to learn their fixtures for the brand new Premier League season as they aim to defend their title
The Premier League fixtures are due to be announced this morning ahead of the brand new 2026/27 season. Arsenal will embark on their first title defence for 22 years, something they have not successfully achieved since the 1930s and so never in the Premier League era.
In 1999, they finished second despite earning the same number of points as their 1998 double-winning season. In 2003, they would famously collapse, losing to Leeds United, which compounded a run of just two wins in seven matches by May, and the title returned to Manchester.
In 2005, Chelsea’s newfound money would come to the fore. Arsene Wenger’s Invincibles reached 49 league games unbeaten but finished 12 points behind a Chelsea side that conceded just 15 goals all campaign.

After 22 years, Mikel Arteta has taken the club back to the summit and now faces the challenge that his old mentor and coach, Wenger, could never achieve. The newly promoted sides, Coventry City, Ipswich Town, and Hull City, offer some new challenges to the club, While Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool will all have new managers.
In what is being seen as a season of transition, and the void left by Pep Guardiola a particular talking point, on paper at least, this is yet another massive opportunity for the most stable club in the country.
Arsenal had so many difficult away trips in the first half of the 2025/26 campaign, getting Old Trafford, Anfield, Stamford Bridge, St James’ Park, The Stadium of Light, Villa Park and the Hill Dickenson Stadium all checked off before Christmas. This clearly boded well for Arteta’s side, who were top at the festive period, and perhaps they would benefit again from these trickier tests early on.
However, it would be preferable that perhaps the tests against Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool come slightly later so Arteta can get plenty of examples of how the new clubs’ managers aim to set up. The same can be said for the newly promoted clubs.
The Champions League league phase matches are due to be played the weeks commencing September 7, October 12, October 19, November 2, November 23, December 7, January 18 and January 25. Play-offs for those finishing 9th to 24th will be held on February 16, 17 and February 23, 24.
Arsenal will hope that these dates have some kinder fixtures around them, especially when facing some of the tough pot 1 sides they could get, like Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich. The draw is set to take place on August 27, with qualifying rounds and play-offs ongoing through July and August.
