US President Donald Trump gave Sir Keir Starmer a brutal dressing down as he gave a speech on his “historic agreement” with Iran live from Evian, France, on Wednesday evening. The press conference came after Trump and Iran’s Masoud Pezeshkian signed an initial deal to end the war, which broke out in February.
The 14-point agreement states Iran has agreed not to buy a nuclear weapon and also proposes a $300 billion fund for the “reconstruction and economic development” of the nation. The USA is not required to contribute. However, Trump didn’t hold back from criticising Starmer during the address to the world’s press.
Standing at the podium, Trump said: “I was a little disappointed. The UK… I said, ‘It would be nice if you sent ships.’ I didn’t do a hard sell on it, but I said it would be nice if you could send some ships.
“The Prime Minister said, ‘They will be there as soon as the war is over.’ I said, ‘Did he just say that?’ I couldn’t believe it, actually.”
His brutal comment comes just hours after a cringeworthy moment at the G7 summit in France aired live on Fox News.
As world leaders were being seated at yesterday’s event, 80-year-old Trump made a grand entrance and jokingly declared to the room: “I’m the boss.”
The US President then politely acknowledged Starmer with a pat on the shoulder, prompting the Prime Minister to respond.
However, Trump completely blanked Starmer, turning his back to greet French President Emmanuel Macron with a handshake and conversation.
Then, on Tuesday, Starmer awkwardly stood beside the US leader, who was shaking hands with others enthusiastically without acknowledging him. The Prime Minister wore a fixed grin during the tense moment, while Trump appeared to ignore him despite being so close.
The encounter was aired on GB News, with the reporter stating: “The US president brutally blanked the Prime Minister, as you can see on your screens now. What’s this brutal smackdown reminiscent of lonely Theresa May at the 2016 Brexit summit’s rejection? What’s this, Sir Keir Starmer’s final humiliation?”
