Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker and edge rusher Joe Tryon-Shoyinka is retiring from the NFL.
Tryon-Shoyinka, a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, has been moved by the Philadelphia Eagles to the reserve/retired list after the team signed him to a one-year contract in March.
The 27-year-old Seattle native played three seasons at the University of Washington before being selected 32nd overall in 2021 by the Buccaneers.
He spent four seasons in Tampa Bay before splitting the 2025 season with the Cleveland Browns and the Chicago Bears.
At the time of publishing, the edge rusher had not addressed his retirement on either his Instagram or X accounts.
Tryon-Shoyinka ends his career with 85 games played and 45 starts – all of which were in Tampa.

Across his playing time, he put up 160 combined tackles and 97 solo tackles, 22 tackles for a loss, 15 sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
Prior to the move for retirement, the Eagles signed former Buffalo Bills defensive end AJ Epenesa to a one-year, $1.4million contract.
Epenesa, a 2020 second-round pick, had previously spent his entire career with Buffalo – putting up 135 tackles, 24 sacks, five forced fumbles and four interceptions.
He was set to join the Cleveland Browns on a one-year, $5million contract. However, Cleveland backed out of the deal after feeling ‘not comfortable finalizing the deal after his physical.’
