US Representative Jim McGovern has called for the restoration of medical evacuations from Gaza, citing the death of a six-year-old Palestinian boy with leukaemia who, he said, died while awaiting approval to leave the territory for treatment.
Announcing a letter signed by 61 members of Congress, McGovern said the child, identified as Ghazal, died before his medical evacuation request was approved.
“In Gaza, no hospital is fully functional and Israeli approval is required to leave. A cancer diagnosis is a death sentence,” McGovern said.
The lawmakers urged the Trump administration to help re-establish a medical evacuation corridor for critically ill patients, arguing that immediate action is needed to address the humanitarian crisis.
