An Italian couple, who had been travelling in a car with an eight-year-old child were killed in the tragic Lanzarote crash as others were rushed to hospital for treatment
Two people have died in a head-on crash between a TYU tourist bus and three cars on the holiday hotspot of Lanzarote.
Two others, including a five-year-old boy, were rushed to hospital following the horror crash on the LZ-2 in the south west of the island.
Pictures from the scene of the wreck show the badly-damaged TUI bus with its front caved in and its windscreen smashed as well as the crumpled remains of a car.
The two people killed were an Italian couple who had been travelling in one of the cars with an eight-year-old child. The five-year old and a 36-year-old bus passenger were among eight people who were also hurt in the crash.
Local police, Civil Guard, paramedics and firefighters rushed to the scene after reports of a crash on the road linking the resort of Playa Blanca with the small town of Yaiza just before 7.45pm yesterday.
An emergency services spokesman said: “A man and woman have died in the crash. A minor aged five who at the initial stage of care presented a moderate elbow injury, was transported by a medicalized ambulance of the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) to Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital.
“The first calls received reported a collision involving three passenger cars and a bus. Firefighters secured the area and the vehicles involved in the accident and freed the victims trapped inside”
“The deaths of two occupants of the same vehicle due to the severity of their injuries was confirmed. Emergency responders also provided assistance to a minor with moderate injuries, who was transported by medicalized ambulance to the aforementioned hospital.”
Eight passengers are believed to have been on the bus along with the driver. The pair in the car who died are believed to be Italian nationals living in Lanzarote. A police investigation into the cause of the crash was ongoing today.
