One of Vladimir Putin’s closest allies shared a chilling, AI-generated video on social media today, in which he seemingly branded the UK one of Russia’s enemies. Dmitry Medvedev, former Russian prime minister and current member of the country’s Security Council, depicted himself shredding pictures of European leaders.
Among the high-profile leaders featured in the video to mark Russia Day were President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and Sir Keir Starmer. Alongside the bizarre fake video, he wrote: “No enemy can stop our homeland’s growth and prosperity. Happy Russia Day!”
Russia Day is the country’s national holiday, celebrated annually to commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic.
He said: “It is obvious that in the event of the catastrophic destruction of a nuclear power plant’s turbine hall or reactor hall, a new Chernobyl will ensue. And this is not one whit better than the use of tactical nuclear weapons.
“The response to such actions could be a symmetrical strike against Ukrainian NPPs [nuclear power plants], as well as against NPPs in NATO countries involved in the conflict.”
He also warned Europeans they “shouldn’t be going to sleep expecting peaceful nights” after a Russian drone crashed into a residential building in Romania, injuring two people
The Kremlin hardliner was responding to international condemnation after a Russian Geran-2 drone crossed into Romanian airspace and struck the apartment block in the city of Galați during an overnight attack on Ukraine last month.
In a Telegram post, Medvedev mocked the reaction from European leaders, writing: “The Euro-impotents are throwing a fit over a drone hitting some residential building in Romania.”
He then claimed without providing evidence: “European nations are direct participants in the war against Russia.”
