Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has been speaking about his Stamford Bridge future while on international duty with Spain at the World Cup
Marc Cucurella has insisted he is “happy” at Chelsea despite ongoing speculation over the left-back’s future this summer.
The 27-year-old has informed the Blues of his desire to leave Stamford Bridge in the upcoming summer transfer window, sources say, amid interest from Spanish duo Atletico Madrid and Barcelona in his signature. Cucurella expressed his frustration at Chelsea in a bombshell interview during the March international break, where the former Brighton defender slated the squad’s lack of experience and also criticised the club for their role in the dramatic break-up with Enzo Maresca midway through last season.
Chelsea sources are aware of Atletico and Barca interest, though the Blues are not actively looking to sell Cucurella this summer. If, however, the right offer is received for the Spain international, then the west Londoners will not stand in the left-back’s way.

Despite Cucurella’s desire to depart Stamford Bridge in the coming months, the Spaniard has insisted he is “happy” where he is and refused to get drawn into speculation over his future.
Asked by El Partidazo de COPE about his future, the Chelsea defender said: “I am happy where I am. I told my camp not to tell me anything now, I don’t wanna know anything.”
When asked, ‘Barcelona or Atletico Madrid?’, Cucurella responded: “Next question!”
Xabi Alonso will begin his role as Chelsea manager on July 1 and will want his compatriot’s future sorted out one way or the other as soon as possible. With Cucurella at the World Cup, his future is set to take the back seat with his focus on helping Spain lift the trophy for the first time since 2010.
Enzo Fernandez, meanwhile, remains a target for Real Madrid. Similarly to the Cucurella situation, Chelsea will sell Fernandez should the right offer, with club sources quoting a figure of £120million, come their way. The Argentine has informed the Blues of his desire to move on this summer.
Manchester City, though, are said to not be interested in Fernandez amid their ongoing pursuit of Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson.
