Darwin Nunez told why Chelsea transfer would be perfect for ex-Liverpool star

Darwin Nunez left Liverpool last summer to join Al-Hilal and has been told why Chelsea would be a suitable destination for the striker

Chelsea have been told why former Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez would be a good signing for the club. Nunez spent three years at Anfield after arriving from Benfica in 2022 and went on to score 40 goals across 143 appearances before his departure last summer.

Nunez left Liverpool to join Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal last year in a deal worth £46.3million, but the Uruguay international’s future has become the subject of speculation once again.

There have been rumours that Nunez’s time at Al Hilal could come to an end this summer, with the striker left out of the club’s squad for the second half of the season.

As a result, there are rumours that a move could happen this summer, and Chelsea have been tipped to be the 26-year-old’s next destination.

Chelsea could have a busy summer transfer window ahead, as they prepare for next season under new manager Xabi Alonso.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea will plan to sign a new striker this summer, but former Blues star Marcel Desailly has explained why Nunez should be considered as a potential target.

“A player who could suit the profile is former Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez,” Desailly told Betway. “If you give him the confidence and belief, he will not feel shy because the people in the system are a higher grade than him.

“That is what happened to him at Liverpool. There were too many players higher grade than him, so he couldn’t express himself.

“At Chelsea, I’m sure he would express himself and perform.

“They need a striker but I’m not sure exactly who it will be or where they will get him. Unless they find one in Germany who we don’t know much about yet, but they have to match the profile of what Chelsea is looking for.”

Chelsea have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27 season, said to be ‘a celebration of the club’s Italian Renaissance.

Chelsea are yet to make their first signing of the summer, but will welcome new arrival Geovany Quenda to their squad ahead of next season.

The Blues agreed a deal to sign the Sporting Lisbon forward last year, with a £40m fee being finalised and the 19-year-old will officially become a Chelsea player this summer.
