Alejandro Garnacho has an uncertain Chelsea future under new boss Xabi Alonso after an unconvincing start since his move from Manchester United
Chelsea have been advised that Alejandro Garnacho should be the first name on a shortlist should the Blues be considering offloading players this summer. The Argentine winger has failed to nail down a regular starting spot at Stamford Bridge since his arrival and is now set to be assessed by incoming manager Xabi Alonso.
Garnacho, 21, made the switch to Chelsea from Manchester United in a £40million deal last August, having fallen out of favour under Ruben Amorim in an acrimonious departure from Old Trafford. The winger chipped in with eight goals and four assists during his debut campaign in west London, yet managed to find the net just once in 24 Premier League appearances and once in nine Champions League outings.
Those underwhelming statistics have left the young Argentine’s future in doubt once more, as Alonso prepares to put his own stamp on a Chelsea side that endured a disappointing 10th-place finish in the Premier League last season.

Any exit would see the Blues hope to make more than they shelled out for the player’s signature, with Manchester United due 10 per cent of profit made on the winger.
Garnacho is not alone in making an uncertain start with the Blues last term. Liam Delap had a tough time after completing his move from Ipswich.
Former Premier League midfielder Danny Murphy believes the west London side would be better served by selling Garnacho rather than their young striker.
Garnacho remains tied to the club until 2032, meaning former Real Madrid boss Alonso could yet hand him an opportunity to prove himself. Finding a willing buyer for the young star, however, may prove to be the bigger challenge.
“I think any manager coming in has to give players a chance so I think he’ll want to look at them and see what they’ve got,” Murphy told the Metro on behalf of NetBet football.
“The other thing is that there might not be other clubs who want to take them with the wages they are on or pay the fee for them.
“That is just the dynamic of football politics and transfers, you can easily say “they haven’t done very well let’s move them on”, but where to, and for how much?”.
“I think Alejandro Garnacho has struggled, and the fans haven’t taken to him. A lot of Chelsea’s wide players have struggle to be honest, if you look at their front line, it’s only really Joao Pedro who has done well.
“If one was going to leave, I think it would more likely be Garnacho than Liam Delap.
“Delap is a young lad, and he brings some characteristics that Chelsea don’t have. He’s different to Joao Pedro so I think Xabi Alonso will give him a crack.”
