A mass shooting has killed at least 12 people in Johannesburg.
South African police says as well as the dead there are another nine people who were injured at an informal settlement in Cleveland with a manhunt now underway for the attackers.
It is understood that 10 heavily armed men were taken in a white Toyota Quantum to the Jumpers informal settlement at around 11.10pm last night where the attack took place.
Officers found multiple people with gunshot wounds at the scene with eight men and three women declared dead while another man taken to hospital later also lost his life.
“It is alleged that more than 10 suspects were dropped off by a white Toyota Quantum near a petrol station in Cleveland,” the police reportedly said in a statement, over the incident on Tuesday night.
“The suspects allegedly entered the informal settlement through both entrances and moved through the area, opening fire on residents and community members at multiple locations before fleeing the scene in the same vehicle.”
