Atletico Madrid have launched a social media attack on Real Madrid after a £129million bid was launched for wanted forward Julian Alvarez
Atletico Madrid have mocked Real Madrid after Los Blancos revealed they had a transfer bid for forward Julian Alvarez rejected, amid interest from Mikel Arteta and Arsenal.
Alvarez, 26, has been at Atleti for the last two years, following his £82million move from Manchester City. In that time, the Argentine has scored 49 goals in 106 matches.
Despite signing a six-year contract with a £431m release clause, speculation had emerged that Alvarez could leave Atleti this summer with Barcelona and Arsenal among those linked.
While Atleti have been firm in their stance that Alvarez is not for sale, Real still lodged a stunning £129m bid for the ex-River Plate man on Tuesday, after Florentino Perez promised a new ‘galactico’.
But Real’s bid was rejected by Atleti. “Following the meeting of the board of directors held today, it has made an offer of 150 million euros to Club Atletico de Madrid for the federative rights of the player Julian Alvarez,” a statement from Real read.
“After reviewing and evaluating the offer, Club Atletico de Madrid has expressed its gratitude for the proposal, made within the framework of the good relations between both clubs, and has rejected it, referring to the player’s release clause.”
A matter of minutes after Real released that statement, Atleti issued a brutal response – and made it clear that the club are not considering any offers for Alvarez this summer.
First, Atleti retweeted Real’s post on X with five laughing face emojis, before releasing a statement of their own, criticising Los Blancos for making a bid and mocking them.
Atleti said: “Official statement with our clarifications regarding the official statement from our neighbours @realmadrid: 1. They cut out the part of the Pope’s video where he said he was an Atleti fan too.

“2. You must have confused education with gratitude, but to leave no doubt: we don’t thank you for anything. 3. We neither study nor consider any offer for Julian. 4. How could we not get along, when you make us laugh even more than @FCBarcelona_es does.”
They then added: “P.S. Taking advantage of the good relationship with your new president, let’s see if you stop ‘stealing’ players from our Academy. Thanks a lot, @realmadrid!”
Even if Atleti change their stance and allow Alvarez to leave, it’s anticipated the club would want more than the £129m Real bid, which would make him the record Premier League transfer if Arsenal were able to complete a deal.
