The Badminton Federation of Nigeria has announced vacancies for coaching positions across the country’s national teams as part of efforts to strengthen the sport and improve Nigeria’s competitiveness on the global stage.

The federation opened applications for the roles on Thursday, with the process expected to run until June 30.
Available positions include Head Coach, Assistant Coach I and Assistant Coach II for the senior national team, junior national team and para-badminton team.
The move signals the federation’s intention to appoint substantive coaches after previously relying on acting coaches for the senior national team and ad hoc appointments for other assignments.
In a statement, the federation said it is seeking experienced, dynamic and result-oriented coaches capable of driving player development and discovering new talents across all levels of the sport.
To be eligible, applicants must possess coaching certifications recognised by the Badminton World Federation or the Badminton Confederation of Africa. Candidates are also expected to have represented either Nigeria or their states at national competitions, while previous coaching experience at state or national level will serve as an added advantage.
The federation added that applicants must be computer literate, possess strong communication and mentoring skills, and demonstrate planning and analytical abilities. Interested candidates must also be below 55 years of age at the time of application.
According to the BFN, successful candidates will oversee athlete preparation for local and international competitions, design and implement training programmes, improve players’ technical and tactical abilities, and conduct performance assessments.
The federation also emphasised that coaches would be expected to serve as mentors and disciplinarians while helping to build professionalism, resilience and confidence among athletes.
In addition to technical duties, the coaches will be responsible for maintaining ethical standards, ensuring athlete safety, keeping accurate performance records and supporting the development of upcoming coaches in the country.
The development is expected to attract several former national players and ex-internationals seeking opportunities to contribute to the growth of badminton in Nigeria.
