Nigerian men’s senior basketball national team, D’Tigers’ former coach, Alex Nwora has thrown his weight fully behind his son’s youth development camp, which is scheduled to hold from this Friday to Sunday in Ilupeju area of Lagos.

Sports247 reports that the veteran coach, who handled D’Tigers from 2017 to 2019 and is now in charge of Erie Community College in USA, affirmed that the project, tagged Jordan Nwora Basketball Camp,will offer three days of intensive training.
The senior Nwora, who also coached Cape Verde’s national team from 2009 to 2013, added that the camp will provide opportunities for mentorship and talent discovery in a very conducive environment.
He disclosed that, though the camp was initially scheduled to commence on June 14th, it was brought forward due to logistical considerations and to improve quality training during the programme, which he assured will be a rewarding experience.
Nwora also affirmed that it is a three-day youth development initiative designed to help participating youngsters improve their basketball intelligence, understanding of the game and technical abilities in various dimensions.
“We have done all the necessary preparations. The objective is to give these young players a platform to learn, compete and develop in a conducive environment,” said Nwora, while also disclosing that it is a well-structured youth programme.
Sports247 gathered that the camp, which will end on Sunday, will attract 120 young players – 60 boys and 60 girls – from across Nigeria, to sharpen their skills under the guidance of experienced coaches and basketball stakeholders.
Organisers add that the Jordan Nwora Basketball Camp has grown into a regional development project since its inception in Liberia, then expanded to Ghana before making its way to Nigeria, while nurturing young talents across West Africa.
“Its expansion across the region highlights the camp’s growing reputation as a platform for talent identification, skills development and youth empowerment, as participants not only receive technical coaching but also exposure to mentorship.
“(They also get) leadership lessons and pathways that open doors to scholarships and professional careers, with (additional benefits from) the presence of experienced coaches, former players and basketball administrators.
“As the camp tips off on Friday, expectations are high that the next generation of Nigerian stars will take another important step in their development, reinforcing the country’s reputation as one of Africa’s leading producers of basketball talent.
“The three-day event is expected to provide a valuable learning experience for the young athletes while contributing to the long-term growth of the sport in Nigeria,” a promotional statement released by the camp’s organisers revealed.
