Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Yan Diomande after learning Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain are keen to sign the RB Leipzig star, according to reports in France.
Diomande has established himself as one of the best young players in the world following a remarkable debut season with Leipzig, scoring 12 goals and recording eight assists in the Bundesliga last term.
Liverpool have made the 19-year-old winger a primary target heading into this summer’s transfer window, according to The Athletic, as they scour the market for a replacement for the recently-departed Mohamed Salah.
However, in a new report from French publication Foot Mercato, Liverpool have become aware that PSG have now joined the race to sign Diomande as the club aim to back manager Luis Enrique in the transfer market.
After retaining their Champions League crown following the penalty shootout win over Arsenal last Saturday, Luis Enrique urged the PSG hierarchy to refresh his squad ahead of the 2026-27 season.
“It’s a normal situation when you have a lot of quality players, but we need to renew the squad, because now we have to play for the position and get new players,” the Spaniard told TNT Sports.
“These are the things you need to do when you’re a team like Paris Saint-Germain.”
A separate report from Spanish outlet SPORT claims PSG are looking to free up funds to sign Diomande by offloading Goncalo Ramos and Lee Kang-In, with both players having been deemed surplus to requirements.
The i Paper understands Diomande – who will look to impress for Ivory Coast at this summer’s World Cup – is currently valued at €100million (£86m) ahead of the transfer window reopening on Monday, 15 June.
Liverpool to open formal talks with Iraola over vacant Anfield post
Meanwhile Liverpool are set to hold formal talks with Andoni Iraola this week over becoming their new head coach, according to BBC Sport.
The Reds sacked Arne Slot last weekend following a difficult season which brought 19 defeats in all competitions.
Iraola has developed a reputation as one of Europe’s best young managers after leading Bournemouth to sixth place and subsequent qualification for next season’s Europa League – the first time the Cherries have clinched European football in their history.
The 43-year-old, who is available after leaving Bournemouth, has a strong relationship with Liverpool’s sporting director Richard Hughes, who brought him to the Vitality Stadium in June 2023.
Widespread reports have indicated Iraola has also received interest from Crystal Palace, AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen following his stellar work at Bournemouth, who have appointed Marco Rose as his replacement.
