In a strong show of growing diplomatic and sporting relations between Nigeria and Poland, the Ambassador of Poland to Nigeria, His Excellency Michal Cygan, on Tuesday paid an inspection visit to the VIP Lounge of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, ahead of the much-anticipated Nigeria vs Poland Football Match Viewing Party scheduled for Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

The special international event is being organized by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, led by Hon. Adeyinka Anthony Adeboye, in collaboration with the Polish Embassy in Abuja.
During the inspection visit, Ambassador Cygan met with the SSA and members of the organizing committee to assess preparations and inspect facilities at the venue, where diplomats, sports stakeholders, football lovers, youth leaders, and invited guests are expected to gather for the international football viewing experience.
The Polish envoy expressed delight with the level of organization and praised the VIP Lounge facility as a befitting environment for an event designed to strengthen friendship and collaboration between both nations.
“I am very happy with the preparation and I truly love the venue. Everything looks ready for a wonderful event,” Ambassador Cygan said during the visit.
He further emphasized that the watch party represents more than football, describing it as an opportunity to strengthen friendship, unity, and cultural exchange between Nigeria and Poland.
“Tomorrow will be about friendship and unity. We are bringing together friends of Poland, members of the diplomatic community, sports stakeholders, and football lovers to celebrate the beautiful game and our growing relationship with Nigeria.”
The ambassador also disclosed that several friends and partners of the Polish Embassy are expected to attend the event, highlighting the importance of sports diplomacy in fostering international relationships and youth engagement.
The inspection visit follows recent high-level discussions between the SSA’s office and the Polish Embassy focused on bilateral cooperation in grassroots sports development, youth empowerment, sports exchange programmes, and international partnerships.
Speaking after the inspection, Hon. Adeboye described the collaboration as another important step in the Presidency’s commitment to using sports as a platform for unity, youth development, and international cooperation.
“Sports continues to create bridges across nations. This partnership with the Polish Embassy reflects our vision of using football and grassroots sports to engage young people positively while building stronger international relationships.”
The SSA added that the watch party would provide a unique atmosphere where football, diplomacy, networking, entertainment, and youth engagement intersect under one roof.
The event will officially begin with guest arrivals by 6:45 PM, while kickoff for the Nigeria vs Poland international friendly match is scheduled for 7:45 PM at the VIP Lounge, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
With preparations now in top gear, anticipation continues to build for what many are already describing as one of the most unique football diplomacy events in Abuja this year.
