The child tragically died at the scene, despite frantic efforts from the emergency services to save its life. An investigation will be carried out into the death.
Paramedics and fire crews have raced to save a child’s life after receiving reports of a youngster falling from an fourth-floor flat on Sunday night.
First responders attempted to resusitate the child, but they were too late, wih the 10-year-old drying at the scene in Lorient in Brittany, France, on Sunday.
It is unclear currently if the child was a boy or a girl.
A police probe now ordered to investigate the child’s death, with a post-mortem to be carried out in the coming days.
There is no suggestion that any ‘third-party’ was involved in the horror incident, which occurred at 4 Rue Gabriel-Fauré, in Bois du Château – a working-class neighborhood in the western French city.
Public prosecutor Laëtitia Mirande said: “An investigation into the causes of death has been opened. The initial investigations do not, at this time, suggest the involvement of a third party.”
She added that the child’s family will be referred to France Victimes to “receive support”
French daily newspaper Ouest-France reports that the child was from Comoros, a volcanic archipelago off Africa’s east coast.
The paper reports the Comorian community has been ‘deeply affected’ by the incident.
