Atletico Madrid have taken a swipe at Barcelona over their pursuit of Julian Alvarez by posting a picture of Lamine Yamal wearing their shirt and announcing an ‘offer’ of tickets to a Bad Bunny concert and a bag of sunflower seeds.

Barcelona are desperate to sign Alvarez and are believed to have made an offer of €100 million for the Argentine international, who is believed to have asked Atletico to leave the club.

Atletico have denied Barcelona’s approach and blasted the ‘lies’ being perpetuated by the Catalans and Alvarez’s agent, with the club having no plans to sell their star man and valuing him far higher than €100m.

Atletico took to social media in response by posting an image of Lamine Yamal in an Atleti shirt on their official ‘X’ account with ‘here we go!’, mocking the style of Fabrizio Romano.

The post reads: “HERE WE GO! We have sent a fax to Barcelona with our transfer offer: 4 tickets for tomorrow’s Bad Bunny concert, an annual subscription to ABC, and a bag of sunflower seeds. We eagerly await the response to prepare the ‘announcement’.”

They followed up the post with similar ‘bids’ for Pedri and Raphinha, as well as stating: “And remember, it took us just five minutes to create this fake post. We live in an era where reality can be altered. Don’t believe everything you see, especially if it’s related to Barça.”

Atletico take swipe at Barcelona and Romano over Alvarez speculation

Barca have not yet responded to the post by Atletico Madrid and it is clearly a response made in jest, with Yamal not seriously being pursued or an offer genuinely being made.

Alvarez has become Barcelona’s top target after the imminent arrival of Anthony Gordon, whose €80m signing from Newcastle is set to be announced in the coming hours.

Atletico have grown infuriated at Barcelona’s conduct and public pursuit of Alvarez, with Romano also seemingly becoming a target for their frustration due to his reporting of the situation.

It is believed that Atletico will not allow Alvarez to leave for Barcelona at any cost, with the player also reluctant to burn bridges at his current club despite wanting the move to the Spotify Camp Nou.

The likes of Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be interested in Alvarez but the forward is thought to be holding out for a move to Barca and is not keen to leave Spain.
