Hamas confirms death of newly appointed military chief

In a statement delivered on Wednesday, Hamas officially confirmed the death of Mohammad Odeh, the head of Hamas’s armed wing in Gaza, after being targeted by an Israeli attack.

The strike hit a residential building in al-Rimal neighbourhood, west of Gaza City, on Tuesday night.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said earlier on Wednesday that the Israeli attack had killed Odeh, along with his wife and three children.

Odeh succeeded the former chief Izz al-Din al-Haddad in mid-May, who was killed alongside his wife, daughter and other Palestinian civilians in an Israeli strike nearly two weeks ago in a breach of the ceasefire agreement.
