A 21-year-old woman from the UK has died after she suffered a seizure while driving in Australia – her devastated family face a £35,000 struggle to bring her body home.
Annie Evans-Lewis had moved to Australia in order to start a “wonderful” new life with her boyfriend Cai when tragedy struck. Annie, from Carmarthen in Wales, was driving near Perth in Western Australia when she crashed her car.
Her vehicle reportedly swerved off the road and hit a tree, and the young woman suffered catastrophic injuries in the crash. She later died in hospital the same day. Annie’s heartbroken loved ones were told by doctors that she had suffered a seizure while driving, which caused the fatal crash.

Family and friends said the pain of losing the “energetic, chaotic and hilarious” young woman has been “indescribable”. Her nearest and dearest are currently raising funds online to help bring Annie home to Wales for her funeral.
The money raised will go towards repatriation costs, funeral care fees in Australia, flights for family members and other expenses linked to the heartbreaking process.
Annie’s loved ones described her as a “loving, kind and down to earth person” who was adored by everyone around her. She would always be remembered as a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, girlfriend and friend, they said.
Emily Davies, who organised the fundraiser, said: “The pain being felt by all who knew her and loved her dearly is indescribable.”
“Annie was a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, girlfriend, and a friend to many.
“She will always be remembered as the most energetic, chaotic, hilarious, loving, kind and down to earth person.
“I speak on behalf of my whole family when I say the response from this so far has been overwhelmingly incredible and we can’t thank each and every one of you enough.
“This massive amount of support has provided relief and comfort to us all, with one less barrier in not only getting Annie home, but giving her the absolute best send off that she deserves too – and if you knew her, you’ll know that she will be watching over us and making sure it is the best.”
