Football news expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on several major transfer stories ahead of this summer, including the latest on Bruno Fernandes, Yan Diomande and Bradley Barcola.

Tottenham pushing to sign Marcos Senesi

Bournemouth secured qualification for the Europa League on Sunday, but manager Andoni Iraola is leaving the club, while defender Marcos Senesi is also set to depart on a Bosman deal, as confirmed by Romano on YouTube.

“Tottenham are still in very advanced talks to sign Marcos Senesi, the Argentinian defender from Bournemouth. Senesi is leaving Bournemouth on a free transfer. That is no secret. I told you back in November, and now it is already official and confirmed. So Senesi is leaving.

“Senesi had opportunities in Italy, with Juventus the main club interested. Several clubs approached him, but Tottenham remain the clear favourites to sign Marcos Senesi. When Roberto De Zerbi arrived after saving Tottenham and doing an excellent job, he spoke to the press after the game and said, ‘Now we cannot wait. Now we cannot go on holiday. Let’s start the market immediately.’

“The message from De Zerbi was clear – let’s close the deal for Senesi as soon as possible. Obviously, it is not only about Senesi, but Tottenham want to complete the agreement formally to avoid other clubs entering the race and trying to hijack the move.

“Tottenham have a verbal agreement with Senesi. In the last 24 hours, Tottenham contacted Senesi again to confirm they want to proceed. So the direction remains Spurs for Marcos Senesi. They are still waiting for him to sign the contract.”

Man Utd in talks with Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes has one year remaining on his current contract at Manchester United, and the club are in talks over fresh terms, despite rumours suggesting that he could depart this summer.

“What I can tell you is that, according to my information, movements behind the scenes have already started for Bruno Fernandes to remain at Man Utd this summer,” Romano said.

“Man Utd, from what I understand, are prepared to make significant efforts to keep Bruno. Contacts are ongoing. Man Utd want to continue with Bruno Fernandes after a fantastic season with 30 goal contributions and 21 assists in a single Premier League campaign. He produced more assists than Kevin De Bruyne and made history in the Premier League.

“Man Utd now want to avoid temptations from around Europe and from Saudi Arabia, where they have wanted Bruno Fernandes for the past three years. They have always been obsessed with Bruno Fernandes. However, my understanding is that Man Utd have already started conversations behind the scenes to ensure Bruno Fernandes continues at the club.

“It is the desire of the ownership, the management, the coach, the technical staff and the teammates. They are all very happy with Bruno as one of the leaders of the dressing room. So, for sure, United are pushing strongly and making efforts to keep Bruno Fernandes. Work is in progress on this situation.”

Yan Diomande transfer update

RB Leipzig starlet Yan Diomande is wanted by several top European clubs and Romano has confirmed that he is assessing his options, despite receiving a fresh offer from his current employers.

“Diomande is absolutely on the shortlist, and near the top of the shortlist, for both Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool,” Romano confirmed. “These two clubs are pushing for Diomande and the player is considering his options carefully. He is speaking with his agents and the clubs to understand the best possible option in terms of project, contract, development and manager.

“There will be further conversations with Liverpool and PSG to decide the best option possible. Nothing is imminent yet, but talks will continue.

“On the other side, there is Leipzig because Leipzig have offered Diomande the chance to stay at the club for one more season, leave in 2027, sign a new contract, receive an improved salary and include a release clause in the agreement. However, at the moment, Diomande is still considering leaving this summer.

“In order to leave this summer, negotiations with Leipzig will be required. Leipzig want around €100 million, possibly even more, for Diomande depending on the proposals that arrive. So there will definitely be movement. Get ready because Liverpool want him, PSG want him, and Leipzig will dictate the conditions.”

Bradley Barcola wanted by Liverpool and Arsenal

Diomande’s decision could have a major impact on the future of Bradley Barcola, who could leave PSG during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Romano admitted: “If Diomande joins PSG, then Bradley Barcola could really leave PSG this summer. It is a genuine possibility.

“Liverpool wanted Barcola in August 2025, but it was not possible to proceed at that time. Liverpool remain interested in Barcola.

“So Diomande and Barcola, these are the two main names for Liverpool. Obviously, it depends on what happens in this domino effect involving PSG. Barcola could become an option for Liverpool, or the opposite could happen with Diomande joining Liverpool instead.

“For Barcola, there is also Arsenal. Arsenal appreciate the player and I expect movement around both players for sure.”

Anthony Gordon expected to leave Newcastle

Meanwhile, Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon has been heavily linked with an exit in recent months, and Romano has confirmed that a departure is on the cards.

“At the moment, my understanding is that Anthony Gordon is not as high on Liverpool’s shortlist. In terms of preference, Liverpool currently favour Diomande and Bradley Barcola. Gordon is not at that same level in Liverpool’s priorities,” Romano clarified.

“Anthony Gordon is definitely an option for three clubs. One is Barcelona because they like him, but he is considered very expensive. Another is Bayern Munich because they already made contact with Newcastle, but they also believe the deal would be very expensive. Bayern have alternatives as well.

“Anthony Gordon has also always been appreciated by people at Arsenal. So there will be movement around Gordon. There could be more clubs entering the race.”

Romano continued: “I can confirm my expectation that Anthony Gordon will leave Newcastle this summer. I see him receiving a new opportunity elsewhere. From what I have heard, contacts have already started behind the scenes. Anthony Gordon is absolutely expected to leave.

“I can also tell you that Newcastle are already almost prepared for that possibility. They expect Anthony Gordon to move on and receive a new opportunity. So once again, it will be about negotiations.

“Barcelona like the player, but they are not prepared to spend completely crazy money. Bayern like the player, but they already have a strong front three with Luis Díaz, Michael Olise and Harry Kane. Unless a great opportunity appears, Bayern are not going to overspend.

“They like Anthony Gordon and they have already held meetings with his agent, but at the moment nothing is imminent. For Arsenal, we need to understand the strategy after the Champions League final. We need to see whether they want more of a winger or a striker, also depending on possible exits from the squad.

“But this week, for Arsenal and PSG, the full focus is on the Champions League final in Budapest on Saturday.”
